Richard Munro has signalled his departure from the Accommodation Association of Australia (AAoA) on 30 September as his contract as interim CEO comes to an end.

Munro returned to the position in September 2021, having previously held the role from mid-2011 to mid-2019.

Over the past year, he has worked closely with the council to support members, advocate for the industry and prepare for the upcoming proposed amalgamation with Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA) that will see the formation of Accommodation Australia, the peak industry body representing Australia’s economically important accommodation sector.

The proposed amalgamation is due to be formalised by mid-2023 subject to regulatory steps including a ballot of all members.

Accommodation Association president Leanne Harwood thanked Munro for his contribution during his year as Interim CEO and for his advocacy of our organisation, members and sector.

“Richard has played a key role in leading the amalgamation discussions across TAA and the AAoA including prior to accepting the Interim CEO role and, now that the project is moving closer to completion, and with both associations working so closely together, we thank Richard for his extensive contribution and leadership,” Harwood said.

Monroe said he is proud of the part he played in helping the Accommodation Association and its members navigate this challenging time.

“As I said when I returned to the role a year ago, this is a sector I love and believe in,” he said.

“Accepting the role of Interim CEO as we embarked on the historic amalgamation proposal with Australian Hotels Association and Tourism Accommodation Australia was the perfect opportunity to get the job done for our members and industry.”
