The final train of our Road & Rail Wrap service for 2019 has left the station, albeit rather slowly and missing a carriage or two.

New bike tour across Myanmar’s heartland

Grasshopper Adventures has announced a new cycling tour through the heartland of Myanmar. Guests will bike from Inle Lake through the Shan Hills and along the Irrawaddy River to Bagan.

Highlights include exploring local culture by bike and kayak, watching the sunset from the top of an extinct volcano and sacred pilgrimage site, and cycling through the mystical pagodas of Bagan.

The price per person is US$1,590 ($2,314) and the next departure date is 9 February 2020, returning on 15 February. Other dates are available in August, November and December 2020.

Christmas comes early for Rocky Mountaineer

Rocky Mountaineer has accepted delivery of its 10th newly built rail car in time for its 30th anniversary in 2020.

Steve Sammut, president and CEO of Rocky Mountaineer, said: “We are extremely excited to add these new GoldLeaf rail cars to our fleet, and they have been extremely well-received by both our guests and our team.

“The delivery of this final rail car marks a key milestone for our team ahead of our 30th anniversary season, and we look forward to hosting and showcasing the best of western Canada to even more guests in 2020 and beyond.”

In 2015, Rocky Mountaineer ordered 10 GoldLeaf rail cars from Stadler in Germany. The new rail cars seat 72 guests and feature dome windows that can be dimmed to moderate intensity of incoming sunlight, redesigned galleys to heighten culinary offering, and other technical features to enhance the guest experience.

Jayride completes $5m fundraising round

ASX-listed airport transfer marketplace Jayride has successfully raised $5 million for further growth in 2020.

The funds were raised via an initial $3.2 million placement to new investors revealed on 14 November, which was upscaled with a further $1.8m from existing shareholders announced yesterday.

Jayride managing director Rod Bishop said the additional funds will be deployed in product and technology as the business continues to scale.

“We are delighted to complete this capital raise and welcome the support of our new and existing shareholders,” he said.

“It is a strong endorsement of our strategy as we continue our rapid growth to serve our travellers globally at scale.

“We will deploy the funds into new technology to enhance the traveller experience, so that travellers keep coming back time and time again.”
