APT Travel Group today announced that Robert McGeary is retiring after more than four decades with the business. Lou Tandy will continue to serve as McGeary family director and will help lead the company into the future.

The announcement follows the passing of founder Geoff McGeary OAM earlier this year.

Robert McGeary said he had the privilege of working alongside his father for more than 40 years prior to his passing in 2025, helping to grow APT Travel Group into what it is today.

“After considering ATG’s skilled board of six directors, including my sister Lou Tandy, our strong leadership team led by CEO David Cox, and the adoption of a robust five-year strategic plan, I am confident in both the position and direction of the business,” McGeary said. “After 33 years serving on our board, now feels like the right time to step down and let the next generation lead. As I retire from my role, I’m proud of ATG’s position as Australia’s premier travel company. My son continues the McGeary family legacy as our fourth generation working in the business.”

Lou Tandy, Geoff McGeary’s daughter and a third-generation leader, has served as an APT Travel Group director for 20 years and will represent the family’s interests while working alongside the independent board and experienced executive team. She brings extensive experience in luxury travel management, with a focus on product design, customer experience, branding and innovation.

The Group’s board and executive structure remain unchanged, with Simon Jones continuing as Chair and the executive team maintaining their current roles under the leadership of CEO David Cox.

“Rob has worked tirelessly alongside my father to help build ATG into Australia’s leading travel company, and we celebrate his incredible contribution today,” Tandy said. “I’m deeply committed to APT Travel Group’s ongoing growth and success and will be working closely with CEO David Cox, our independent board and our exceptional management team to build on the strong foundation my family has created.”

ATG CEO David Cox added that the company’s strategy, team and commitment to excellence remain firmly in place.

“We are deeply indebted to Rob McGeary for his tremendous vision and contribution,” Cox said. “Lou Tandy brings deep expertise in the luxury travel space, and with her leadership in this next chapter, we will continue to grow, innovate and set new standards. We’re having a record year, and the future is bright.”
