Happy Valentines, lovers!
To celebrate, we’ve got a list of things that have gone wrong on romantic trips.
What? Love’s a battlefield.
If you are planning on taking a romantic trip anytime soon, hopefully, this won’t jinx you.
But cocktails at sunset long walks on the beach and insurance claims are what truly makes a holiday special.
If you’re confused about the latter, allow us to explain.
Because it’s Valentine’s Day (and to cheer those of us up whose valentine is a mop with a face glued on), Allianz Global Assistance has collected some of the most unusual, romance-related travel insurance claims from Aussie tourists.
And boy, are they doozies.
Some of these claims were covered and received happy endings and some weren’t, but all happened over the past year.
Hold on to your hats (and your engagement rings).
Sausage Fingers
For one unlucky traveller, a romantic skiing holiday resulted in her wedding rings being very un-romantically cut off.
Said traveller tripped on the snow and fractured her wrist.
A holiday-ruiner right? Then her hand swelled up so much her wedding rings would not budge – and had to be forcibly removed.
A life-ruiner, basically.
Single-moon
You don’t need a wife or husband to go on a honeymoon, right? This is what one poor soul was left wondering after being left at the altar.
Like that isn’t bad enough, he had booked a romantic honeymoon overseas – for two, not one.
Lets hope insurance took pity on him and refunded his losses back. A lost love isn’t claimable, but lost travel costs sure are!
Ring fling
Whilst on a family cruise, a woman made a claim after losing her engagement ring – try explaining that to your finance.
But the kicker? It wasn’t even her fault.
After taking her ring off to have a shower, her mischievous son picked up her engagement ring and danced around with it on his finger.
Unfortunately, he moved his hand too quickly and the ring flew straight into the open toilet. Obviously, he started panicking about getting into a ton of trouble and flushed the toilet to hide the evidence. Bye Felicia.
Hospital Honeymoon
Sure, flight delays are bad – but this couple experienced a whole different kind of delay.
They had just had a gorgeous wedding in New Zealand and arrived in the airport to leave for a romantic honeymoon in Thailand.
But whilst they were waiting, the bride suffered from a severe allergic reaction and had to be rushed to the hospital! So close, yet so far from the perfect honeymoon.
Ring Robbery
For the love of God (and for love) if you have an engagement ring – make sure you keep a tight hold on it.
Not as tight as that first claim story – but tight enough so it doesn’t get stolen.
Because that’s exactly what happened to one traveller overseas – he was visiting his mum (to show her the ring) when it was never seen again.
He took a quick detour to a local shopping centre, having placed the ring in his backpack, and later realised that someone had slashed open his backpack and the ring was gone.
