The multi-million-dollar renovation of Rydges Canberra has been completed, offering several transformed spaces throughout the renamed property.
Formerly known as Rydges Capital Hill, Rydges Canberra now features a revitalised arrival lobby, reception, lounge, and public areas as well as an updated bar and restaurant.
Conference and function spaces have also been updated, while all guest rooms have undergone new detailing and finishing.
The newly refurbished hotel features terrazzo tiles, textured layering of natural materials with tan and deep blue colour tones, alongside the introduction of what Rydges describes as “a signature scent”, which was designed exclusively for the property.
A modern pod-style reception and multiple lounges and seating areas built around a pond and central fireplace have also been introduced at the property, as well as luxe bar and dining areas.
The renovations are complemented by live forestry with mature trees, leafy canopies, foraging planters, and a functioning chef’s garden, curated seasonally and used by the chef in the property’s new signature restaurant, The George Bar and Grill.
The property’s renovations were overseen by award-winning architecture and interior design practice Plus Architecture, and draws on 1950s-style cues to make the most of the property’s atrium space, using interior design to celebrate the architecture of the building.
Rydges Canberra will be led by general manager Steven James, who boasts more than a decade of hospitality experience in leadership roles across Australia. James joined the hotel in August to lead the completion of its renovation and opening.
