Samara Lombok in Indonesia partnered with Rafa Nadal to establish the first Rafa Nadal Tennis Center in Southeast Asia.
The Rafa Nadal Tennis Center operates flagship academies in Mallorca and Kuwait.
Samara Lombok is a roughly 150-hectare coastal destination that will open in the first quarter of 2028. Guests can find the destination on Lombok’s south coast, just 25 minutes from Lombok International Airport. Samara Lombok will launch with three boutique hotels and 150 of a planned 500 villas.
The Rafa Nadal Tennis Center will sit at the centre of the destination and feature four tennis courts and padel courts. The centre’s programs will cater to players of all ages based on training methods developed by Nadal and his team.
“Samara is built to be a playground in the truest sense – a place where guests can be as active as they wish, for as long as they wish, then come back together over a shared story,” Samara Lombok co-founder Steve Ebsworth said. “World-class tennis and padel sit right at its heart.”
“We’re very excited about the arrival of the first Rafa Nadal Tennis Center in Southeast Asia,” Rafa Nadal Academy deputy general manager Maribel Nadal said. “We believe this project will help bring our methodology and our passion for sport to new generations of players and families from all over the world.”
The tennis centre strengthens Samara Lombok’s pitch to investors and buyers seeking early access to an emerging luxury market. Villas come in 12 designs ranging from two to five bedrooms.
Aside from the tennis centre, the development will also host a Rascal Voyages-operated marine biology and watersports centre, and a football training centre.
