Prime Minister Scott Morrison has revealed that Aussies could enjoy quarantine-free travel to Singapore in the very near future.

Speaking at a press conference this morning with NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet and Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce, Morrison said the federal government was in “the final stages” of completing a travel bubble arrangement with the Singapore government.

“I was in a position, as you know, some months ago, I met with the Prime Minister of Singapore, Prime Minister Lee in Singapore, to set up a new arrangement which will see our borders open more quickly to Singapore,” Australia’s PM said.

“We anticipate that being able to be achieved within the next week or so as we would open up to more visa class holders coming out of Singapore.”

Morrison said Australia’s travel arrangement with Singapore will look a lot like the one it put in place with New Zealand’s South Island earlier this week, whereby fully-vaxxed students and business travellers would get first dibs, and then the bubble would open up to tourists.

However, the success of the bubble depends on whether other states and territories follow the lead of NSW in scrapping quarantine requirements for international arrivals. Victoria is set to do just that from next month, according to ABC News.

Morrison said the travel bubble arrangement will align with the timetable Qantas announced today for its flights to and from Singapore.
