A Scoot flight on its way to Singapore was forced to make an emergency landing in Sydney after a shirtless passenger started throwing punches.

Witnesses saw a man drinking heavily before the flight took off. By 20 minutes in, he became aggressive towards fellow passengers.

A Scoot spokesperson told the ABC the man “appeared normal” during take-off but soon became disruptive and had to be moved to other seats.

Two hours into the flight the disruptive man punched another passenger and had to be restrained. A video recorded by passengers shows two men throwing punches at each other before one is put in a chokehold, according to the ABC.

After the two were separated by passengers and cabin crew, one of the men abruptly took off his shirt and attacked another passenger before several male passengers pinned him down in the aisle.

Police took the man into custody at Sydney International Airport after the plane was forced to turn back two hours after taking off from the Gold Coast.

Scoot has since released a statement expressing its regret for the “flight disruption”.
