Ultra luxury cruise line Silversea is setting its sights on a wider demographic as it adapts its new vessel Silver Muse to meet market demands.

The new ship will sail in autumn 2017.

Speaking to media at an event in Sydney, general manager and director of sales and marketing Australasia Karen Christensen highlighted the vessel’s new features which include more interconnecting rooms for those travelling with their families and a bigger pool.

“The reason this fleet ship needed to change a little bit is because the demographic that’s coming into the luxury market is becoming more the norm,” she said.

“This is at a price point that is more affordable and offers value to a greater demographic than beforehand so that’s an opportunity for us to make these changes.”

Christensen described Silver Muse as an “evolution” of Silver Spirit which was built in 2009. Spirit has capacity for 540 guests while Muse will be slightly bigger, catering to 596 guests.

“We still believe there’s that mark that we can’t go over in terms of capacity in order to deliver the sophisticated elegance of the brand that we are renowned for in the ultra luxury sector,” she said.

“We think there’s a benchmark of no more than 600 and we are scraping in, but we are still in.”

Food will be a major focus on the new ship with the number of restaurants rising from six to eight, with a strong focus on the cruise line’s Italian heritage and another Relaid and Chateaux restaurant as part of its partnership with the French cooking school.

Other features include an extra spa, alternative entertainment on board and a larger deck with three outdoor dining venues.
