Fresh off the back of Bachelor mania, South Africa is back on the horse with Channel Ten’s new program, I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!
The show, filmed in Kruger National Park, kicked off last night with a decent audience of 1.19 million viewers across Australia.
While the two programs feature very different perspectives of the breathtaking destination, I’m a Celebrity is set to paint the visitor experience in a slightly different light.
Last night, for example, saw TV and radio personality, Chrissie Swan, slide down muddy mountains and wind up covered in locusts, ants and maggot larvae – a far cry from the luxury suites and vineyard dates of The Bachelor.
The popular romantic reality show was more a fan of whisking the ladies to Table Mountain, the Cape wine lands, local communities and charities, shark dives and safaris through Pilanesburg Game Reserve.
The celebs, which include football legend Barry Hall and ex-Brady Bunch-er (Marcia) Maureen McCormick, land in a dramatic fashion, stranded in the middle of the jungle, with nothing more than some beans and rice an an outdoor bed.
The setting of Kruger National Park is, when it’s not home to stranded celebs, is home to 336 species of trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals.
Human interaction with the Lowveld environment over many centuries – from bushman rock paintings to majestic archaeological sites like Masorini and Thulamela – is also very evident in the Kruger National Park, making it an appealing location to explore regardless.
These treasures represent the cultures, persons and events that played a role in the history of the Park, and are conserved along with the park’s natural assets.
So whether they’re sticking their hands into logs full of insects, or watching majestic mammals roaming the picturesque environment, these celebs are set to enjoy some pretty unreal experiences.
