The travel industry has been deeply affected by the tragedy that unfolded at Bondi Beach yesterday, Australia’s top tourist destination.
We are all impacted by attacks like this and ask many questions about the terror that took place, the lives lost, families impacted, and the fear that it has caused. As more consequences arise from this distressing event, we can do something.
We can band together and support the diverse Bondi community, not by deserting it, but by offering comfort and compassion to all those affected, especially Sydney’s Jewish community, who were targeted during a time of celebration.
Bondi Beach is one of Australia’s most popular tourist attractions. In 2024, around 2.64 million people visited the beach, with 2.8 million people expected this year.
Of the 2.64 million who visited last year, around 1.65 million were international visitors and almost a million were domestic.
As a tourist hotspot, some of Australia’s most well-known travel companies, including The Travel Corporation, reside in Bondi. Managing director of Uniworld Boutique Cruises, Alice Ager, took to LinkedIn to say that everyone from TTC was safe.
“We are so grateful for your thoughts. We are all working at home today but will be back in the office tomorrow,” she said.
Whilst the beach is currently closed to members of the public during the police investigation, many have called for Bondi’s tourism industry to be supported once it reopens.
