When it comes to putting holiday plans in motion, the booking experience can be anything but relaxing.
New research from Luxury Escapes has revealed 56 per cent of Australians surveyed find booking a holiday stressful, with 1 in 10 admitting to feeling annoyed and inconvenienced during the holiday planning process.
The research revealed 85 per cent of Australians said they were the person responsible for booking a holiday, with close to a quarter (17 per cent) revealing they are left with the responsibility and are not the organiser by choice.
The task of organising a holiday can turn into a booking nightmare, with over a third (39 per cent) of Australians admitting they’d rather someone else book it for them.
When going through this holiday process, Australians look to the internet (75 per cent) and travel agents (16 per cent).
However, as a result of the stress of organising a holiday, more than a quarter of Australians (28 per cent) admitted to needing a holiday just to calm down from the stress of booking one.
Half the nation (50 per cent) also admitted to suffering or having suffered from pre-holiday stress with close to a quarter (15 per cent) revealing it has led to physical symptoms.
One in 10 Australians even admitted to being so stressed from organising a holiday, they forgot to complete a key activity before leaving including:
- Informing their workplace of their absence
- Booking tickets to depart the same day they were meant to start a job
- Forgetting some bookings altogether.
Over half the nation (53 per cent) believe that researching the right accommodation is their main concern when booking travel, closely followed by:
- Ensuring the best value for everything (46 per cent)
- Ensuring all options fit within a budget (39 per cent)
- Researching ways to get around (34 per cent)
- Choosing the right experiences (25 per cent).
