Sydney Airport’s Master Plan 2045 has received Australian Government approval, locking in the long-term growth blueprint for Australia’s busiest airport over the next two decades.
Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King signed off on the plan, which Sydney Airport says will support future demand, strengthen the country’s global connectivity and drive economic growth across NSW.
Sydney Airport CEO Scott Charlton said the approval gave the airport a clear pathway to invest in the infrastructure it needs.
“As Sydney grows, Sydney Airport must grow with it. Approval of Sydney Airport Master Plan 2045 provides a clear pathway to plan for future demand and invest in the infrastructure Sydney will need over the next two decades,” Charlton said.
“As Australia’s international gateway, this plan ensures we can continue supporting tourism, trade, investment and jobs while delivering the capacity needed for future generations. Importantly, it provides a framework for growing sustainably and responsibly, minimising environmental impacts and working closely with the communities surrounding the airport.”
Charlton thanked the government and Minister King for their support, and acknowledged the contributions of partners, government agencies and the community throughout the planning process.

What’s changing
The plan sets the framework for future investment in terminal capacity, transport connections and passenger facilities to support that forecast growth.
The centrepiece is the redevelopment of the domestic precinct, bringing domestic, regional and international services together in a new integrated terminal experience.
The Master Plan also folds in Sydney Airport’s five-year Airport Environment Strategy, covering emissions reduction, climate resilience and more sustainable airport operations.
