Sydney’s stacked sports calendar in July has been deemed a big enough deal to crown the city Australia’s sporting capital and will see up to 180,000 fans attend three stand-out fixtures.
Starting Wednesday 12 July the harbour city will see the final 2023 State of Origin match, The Wallabies will then take on Argentina in an important match of the Rugby Championship and the month will conclude on 20 July when the Matildas battle it out against the Republic of Ireland in the Women’s world cup opener at Accor Stadium.

The three events are expected to attract 32,000 regional, interstate and international visitors to Sydney and collectively are worth around $36 million in visitor expenditure to the NSW economy.
“In the space of nine magic days, Sydney will host three massive sporting events, with stadium attendance expected to be more than 175,000 people,” sport minister, NSW, Steve Kamper, said.
“Hosting these events supports our vision for NSW to be the premier destination in the Asia-Pacific region.”

July 2023 marks the start of the NSW government’s plan to hit visitor expenditure targets of $65 billion annually by the end of the decade as part of a new ‘Visitor Economy Strategy.’
