With the (Northern Hemisphere) summer coming to a close, Airbnb have released their travel season numbers – and boy are they big.
Airbnb has come a long way from it’s startup roots – the website is now valued at over $30 billion and has the stats to prove it, particularly during June, July and August.
In May, they estimated that one million U.S. guests were staying in Airbnbs on Memorial Day weekend alone – so you can imagine how many global guests there were.
Luckily, you don’t have to imagine, because we’ve got the cold hard numbers right here.
The peak night for Airbnb was on August 12, where they had 2.6 million guests. Over the three summer months, Airbnb had 45 million guests in total.
No wonder the they’re worth so much! And it’s only growing.
Over summer 2016, Airbnb saw extreme growth in Asia, especially in China – one of their newest and fastest-growing markets. Chinese cities Hanzhou, Chongqing and Wuhan were the top three highest-growth destinations over last year, recording 495 per cent, 388 per cent and 371 per cent increases in bookings, respectively.
And unsurprisingly, summer travellers flocked to ocean-side abodes, from Brazil to New Zealand and back around the world.
