As technology continues to change the way we travel, it opens doors to new possibilities.

We all know how useful apps are, hell, we’d spend 90 per cent of our lives lost if it weren’t for Google maps.

Besides helping us fumble through day-to-day life, apps are also a great tool for agents in terms of showcasing destinations and keeping informed about travel and booking options.

Last month, the Great Barrier Reef unveiled an app that works as an augmented reality brochure, showcasing the reef to potential visitors.

Now, Darwin is following suit.

According to NT News, JCTK Investments wants to develop a tourism app called ExploreAR360 to showcase the city to the world.

And they believe the concept will take off across the globe.

The app will feature augmented reality with a 360 virtual reality combined with online booking systems to create a one-stop-shop for travellers.

“Users can do everything from book a flight, to hire a car, to find an authentic tour.” John MacKenzie, who developed the concept for the app with his business partner Shauna Mounsey, told NT News.

The app will integrate with existing travel apps such as AirBnB and Skyscanner, said MacKenzie, who just returned from a five-week networking mission in America, visiting companies such as Uber, Twitter, Airbnb, and Facebook.

“Of course, we expect to make a profit from the app, but our primary motivation was to find an innovative way to revive our tourism sector,” Mounsey told NT News.

JCTK Investments just won a $60,000 grant under the Business Innovation Support Initiatives program to develop the app.
