Ahh, nudist beaches.
A phrase which often conjures images of older men with lingering eyes, lying stark naked on the sand completely sprawled.
It’s not exactly a sultry sight.
But who knows, maybe that’s just our experience at nudey beaches.
But alas, we digress.
One European country is set to debut its first nude beach, and it’s not exactly a country known for its coastline.
So where will these willies be on display alongside the shoreline?
Ireland.
Yep, that’s right. The country steeped in religious values and completely lacking a tropical climate is getting its first nude beach.
According to the Independent UK, Hawk Cliff in Dalkey is set to undergo the nudist makeover as public notices informing locals of the switch up have already been placed around the surrounding suburbs.
The signs will warn unknowing swimmers of the likelihood of seeing bare bottoms.
Speaking to the Irish Sun, Irish Naturist Association (INA) chief Pat Gallagher said: “Every other country in Europe has these kinds of signs” and they will simply say “nude bathers may be seen beyond this point.”
Gallagher added the move is a “milestone for Ireland”.
“We don’t go out to offend anyone. We simply want to go there, lie in the sun, get in the water, have a swim… but we don’t want to wear anything, that’s all,” he said.
As per the Independent UK, the news follows Ireland changing a law relating to public nudity in 2017, where getting nakey in public could only be punishable when someone is “intending to cause fear, distress or alarm”, or engages in intercourse.
Not everyone is happy about the nude beach, with Councillor John Bailey saying he is “totally opposed” to the beach.
Hawk Cliff will officially be open to all beach-goers, bare bums or not.
