This hotel wants to read your mind using biometrics

We seem to have gone so far into the future we’ve hit twilight zone territory because AccorHotels have rolled out a program that seeks to read your mind.

Teaming up with Toronto-based agency Cossette and digital experience creators The Mill, the company has developed a “completely interactive sensory experience” to measure behavioural responses, as well as biometrics including EEG, heart rate, galvanic skin response, and brain activity.

Why are they doing this, you ask? To create a “psychograph” that reveals deeper insights into our true desires.

The program, which is called Seeker, was developed to coincide with AccorHotel’s Le Club loyalty program’s merger with Fairmont President’s Club, Raffles Ambassadors, and Swissotel Circle, reports Fast Company.

The hotel giant wanted to prove that despite the merger, they would be able to continue offering a personalised service. Apparently, the best way to do this is to literally try and read their guests minds.

And you can let them have a peek into your thoughts from the comfort of your own home! There’s an online version that uses your computer’s webcam or the front-facing camera on your smartphone to record your heart rate and pulse to determine the kind of travel you find most appealing.

They’re also developing kiosks that will appear in select hotels by the end of this month.

According to Fast Company, who tested the immersive experience, participants strapped on brainwave monitoring headband and wrist cuffs to monitor heart rate and skin response (whatever THAT means).

Once geared up, participants interacted with a number of stimuli which determined their preference for adventure vs tranquillity, whether they were an introvert or an extrovert, and even architectural preferences.

You then get a cute little psychographic illustration to show you the inner workings of your brain which is totally cool and not creepy.

Here are some examples from the Seeker Project website:
