CANCEL WINTER, because Thredbo Resort has banned one of the most fun-filled activities available on the slopes.
Let’s all take a moment of silence to remember tobogganing.
According to the ABC, the ski resort has banned tobogganing from anywhere on the property along with any other related slop activities – as they’ve been deemed “very dangerous”.
The resort made an announcement on it’s website yesterday, which has received a ton of backlash on social media.
The statement from Thredbo said the ban was to “maximise safety for guests, employees, and resort property”.
This means bad news for families with young kids, anyone who doesn’t want to ski or snowboard or literally just anyone who likes tobogganing or any other “snow play” with “miscellaneous snow sliding equipment”.
Because all of those things are banned.
“Thredbo acknowledges it is a favourite winter pastime, however it can also be very dangerous,” the statement said.
“An observed trend of guests is taking toboggans and miscellaneous snow sliding equipment onto ski runs has increased the risk of . . . collision with another sled, vehicle, skier or snowboarder, loss of control of the equipment, falling off of the equipment; and collision with natural and man-made objects,” the ABC reported.
Many have criticised the resort’s decision on social media, and have asked for more facts on exactly how dangerous tobogganing is.

Victoria has sanctioned toboggan types and defined toboggan areas. Why didn't @ThredboResort do that instead? Also how many toboggan related incidents occurred last year? Without facts this decision just looks greedy and elitist. Bad for snowsport. #Thredbo

But it appears Thredbo is having none of it.
“No enquiries will be entertained from toboggan or miscellaneous snow sliding equipment users,” their website said.
“All staff play a role in the implementation of this policy and subsequent elimination of these risks to our guests.”
