The Travel Industry Mentor Experience (TIME) has launched the Richard Froggatt Memorial Scholarship, the organisation’s first memorial scholarship, honouring one of Australia’s most respected aviation leaders.

The scholarship will be offered as part of TIME’s Program 68, which begins on 19 August 2026. Applications close on Monday 20th July at 5pm and are open exclusively to aviation industry professionals.

The initiative recognises the legacy of the late Richard Froggatt, whose career spanned more than 30 years across the Australian airline and tourism industries. Froggatt held senior roles with British Airways and Lauda Air, where he received one of Austria’s highest civilian honours. He also served as chairman of the Board of Airline Representatives Australia (BARA), was a board member of the Tourism Task Force Australia and the Melbourne Convention & Visitors Bureau, and was president of Skal International.

TIME chair Penny Spencer said the scholarship reflected Froggatt’s long-standing commitment to developing people throughout the industry.

“Richard Froggatt was a deeply respected and admired leader whose influence extended far beyond his professional achievements,” Spencer said.

“This scholarship is a fitting tribute to his passion for our industry and his unwavering belief in the power of mentorship. We are honoured to recognise his legacy and create opportunities for future leaders in aviation through this initiative.”

Froggatt’s life and business partner, Gaye Wood, said the scholarship was a fitting way to honour his passion for mentoring.

“Richard would be so proud of this special scholarship in his name. He adored helping people develop, grow and go on to more successful lives and careers. This TIME Scholarship is the perfect fit to honour his legacy,” Wood said.

Former colleagues also paid tribute to Froggatt’s leadership and generosity.

One described him as a leader who “built an incredible team” and inspired staff to give their best, while another credited him with playing an instrumental role in their aviation career progression through his “vibrant encouragement”. A former Lauda Air colleague said Froggatt “saw something in me, gave me a chance, and mentored me.”

The scholarship reinforces TIME’s mission to develop emerging talent across the travel, tourism, hospitality, cruise and aviation sectors by connecting participants with experienced industry mentors.

Alongside applications from aspiring mentees, TIME is also encouraging new mentors, sponsors and industry supporters to get involved as the program continues to grow.
