Good news for fans of slow travel, soaking up the scenery and trains in general: iconic Aussie rail service The Ghan has a return date.

Journey Beyond Rail Expeditions is slowly getting back on track (get it? Train tracks?) after suspending services to comply with COVID-19 travel restrictions, announcing The Ghan will resume operations on 30 August 2020 with a departure from Adelaide.

The service will continue to operate on Sundays from Adelaide and Wednesdays from Darwin.

The Indian Pacific, which travels between Sydney and Perth is also expected to resume on 30 September, depending on border restrictions between Western Australia and New South Wales.

Likewise, The Great Southern is scheduled to continue its second season between Adelaide and Brisbane in December.

As reported in our recent Road & Rail Wrap, the Overland is expected to operate services between Adelaide and Melbourne from 14 September.

Journey Beyond has implemented a new plan to up its health and safety standards for its guests and crew called JourneySafe with stringent cleaning and hygiene practices and physical distancing measures.

The operator will provide credit to the value of the original booking to travellers whose journeys have been suspended, as well as partially releasing its 2021 season early so they can plan ahead.
