Despite how difficult it can be travelling with children, families appear to be travelling further afield in their winter holidays.
Meanwhile, we’re struggling to make it to the office in weather we believe will give us pneumonia.
Southern Cross Travel Insurance (SCTI) has released data showing families becoming more adventurous in their winter travels, with destinations as far as France, the UK and Greece now on their radars, quite different to long-time family favourites Bali and New Zealand.
While Indonesia still tops the Aussie family favourite, the USA, Singapore and France now follow respectively, before our close neighbour New Zealand, sitting at fifth.
According to policies taken out with SCTI, the top ten destinations for Aussie families this July are:
- Indonesia
- USA
- Singapore
- France
- New Zealand
- United Kingdom
- Thailand, Italy (equal)
- Fiji
- Malaysia
- Greece
Because families are now travelling further afield, SCTI has also released advice on travelling with children.
Jo McCauley SCTI chief customer officer said: “There’s no denying travelling with kids requires more planning and preparation than travelling alone.
“A few tips and tricks will help you and your family explore new horizons with a peace of mind.”
Some of SCTI’s family travel tips include keeping lollipops for long-haul flights due to air pressure changes, taking a photo of your child each day to show the outfit they are in if there is an emergency, always carrying hand sanitiser, and checking the child-friendliness of accommodation upon arrival.
“Travel is an enriching experience for people of all ages,” McCauley added.
“While we know things can go wrong overseas, a sense of security can free us up to be more adventurous.
“We want families to get out there and see the world, safe in knowledge they have a policy from an established insurer.”
