Tourism Ireland and VisitBritain have celebrated The British and Irish Lions Tour by co-hosting an engaging an entertaining trade and media event during The British & Irish Lions vs Queensland Reds rugby match.

The event brought together travel partners, media, and industry stakeholders for an evening of destination updates, networking, and cheer.

British Consul general and deputy trade commissioner for the department of business and trade Australia and New Zealand Louise Cantillion and consul general of Ireland in Sydney Rosie Keanne welcomed guests to the event. This was followed by presentations from VisitBritain country manager for ANZ Kristen Angus and Tourism Ireland regional manager Sofia Hansson, who highlighted their latest campaigns, upcoming sporting events, and destination updates.

Attendees then took on Destination Bingo which featured sport-inspired questions along with testing their knowledge on both Great Britain and the Island of Ireland, followed by the sporting action of The British & Irish Lions vs Queensland Reds match.

“It’s an exciting time as the British & Irish Lions return to Australia for the first time in twelve years, and acts as a great opportunity to highlight the Island of Ireland as a destination for lovers of sport, culture, and world-class experiences, all the while teaming up with our close neighbours at VisitBritain,” Hansson said.

“We were delighted to partner with our friends at Tourism Ireland to celebrate The British & Irish Lions tour in Australia,” Angus added. “With a strong line up of major sporting events set to keep Britain front of mind across both Australia and the UK in the year ahead, we’re excited to build on this momentum and look forward to continuing our close collaboration with our travel trade and media partners to inspire even more visitors to explore Britain.”

In true sporting fashion, the event brought together nations through sport, storytelling, and a dash of friendly competition. We look forward to watching the remainder of The Lions Tour as they take on the Wallabies in the first test on 19 July.
