Think of this as your intermission from the diary posts, because I appreciate mind-bogglingly natural landscapes and amazing historic sites can get a bit much to take. If you missed PARTS ONE, TWO or THREE, we’ve got you covered.

Instead, let me walk you around our expedition ship for a few minutes.

As mentioned in a previous post, the Greg Mortimer was custom-built in 2019 and was the first passenger ship to feature the revolutionary Ulstein X-BOW®, this allows the ship to cross oceans more comfortably and efficiently.

Accommodating an average of 132 expeditioners per voyage within 76 cosy, comfortable cabins – all cabins have a view of the ocean and 85% of cabins have their own balcony. The ship also features a modern lecture lounge, multiple observation areas, zodiac launching platforms, a restaurant serving excellent meals, a gym and wellness centre, jacuzzis, a mudroom and many other amenities.

There’s nothing like having frozen hair, but still being warm bordering on too hot.

Of course, if you’ve been outside in the frozen wilds, the complete indoor heat option isn’t too bad either.

You can pretend your Scott or Shackleton, but you’re really not.

The hydraulic viewing platforms/wings are awesome spots to watch the world sail by, particularly if you’re next stop is the sauna.

This is a very bad room for those struggling with weight loss.

The lecture theatre sounds worse than it is. The talks are interesting and completely voluntary.

The library is a fantastic place to grab an identification book and ponder exactly which seal you just saw on an ice flow.
The bar/observation lounge is THE spot for whale watching and sun downers.

Tomorrow is the last instalment of our diary and it’s a bumper four-day extravaganza so don’t miss it.
