Travel writer hilariously recreates iconic holiday photos from home

We’ve all been coping with the travel pause in our own ways.

Some of us have been keeping busy planning the ultimate domestic getaway, while others pretend they are flying internationally in their laundry, but this woman’s solution is particularly creative.

South African-based travel writer Sharon Waugh has kept busy recreating the most cliche travel photos from her home in Cape Town.

Waugh, who has been to 57 countries, told Insider that she spent the first part of lockdown writing for a Chinese travel app, but when work dried up, she started “dreaming about the places I had written about and reminiscing on my past travels”.

She decided to pass the time recreating cliche travel photos, which she said she has now made around 50.

“I’ll probably just keep doing them until I am able to travel freely again,”

She has been posting her adventures at home to her Instagram account @thesharonicles, which boasts 5,104 followers.

Anybody up for a road trip? While international travel is not really a thing right now, there’s nothing stopping us from venturing off to see, what is in my opinion, one of South Africa’s most underrated national landmarks! The Big Pineapple in Bathurst has been at the top of my local bucket list for some time now. #letsgo (Thanks for letting me use your pics @activeus24 and @danelle_van_dalen , and thanks to my housemate for buying the pineapple.) #pineapple #bathurst #bucketlist
