Travel Weekly caught up with TMS Executive Recruiter Ainslie Hunt, to chat about their sponsorship of Women in Travel.
What does the Women in Travel event mean to you?
I think it is a fantastic event and really resonates with us as a business. We work with a number of executive female candidates and clients on a daily basis and this is a great time to celebrate their achievements.
Why did TMS sponsor the event?
We feel that as a supplier of talent to the travel industry it is essential that we support an event with such an important message. As soon as we heard about the event we knew it was something we wanted to be involved with and help women to succeed in any way we could.
This is the inaugural Women in Travel Awards in Australia. Why do you think this is an important event the travel industry should embrace?
I think it is important as we need to celebrate all the great ways the travel industry supports equality and also is an industry that within most employers there is a meritocracy in place which sees people climb the ladder through talent and hard work. However, by the industry really throwing their support behind this event, we can show that this should not only continue as it is but improve even further. To lead the way in employment opportunities for all.
What are you looking forward to most about the event?
Celebrating some of the most impressive female leaders the industry has to offer and even more importantly encouraging the next generation of female talent to aim for the top.
What’s the most important thing to focus on when it comes to women’s role in the travel industry?
I believe in many ways the travel industry leads the way in terms of flexibility and equality within the majority of workplaces and it is also an industry that has a number of influential female leaders. However, I also think it is important to not be complacent in this as until equality is reached with all employers we need to ensure that there is no barrier to succeed.
Entries are now open across a range of 18 categories. Entrants can self-nominate to go into the running in one (or more) categories, all entries are free and close on 6 October.
