Two passengers have died during Carnival Splendor’s four-day round voyage out of Sydney.
A Tasmanian woman passenger drowned after snorkelling on Morton Island after attempts to revive the woman on the beach failed.
In the second incident, a man went overboard on the 3,000-passenger Carnival Splendor, which is homeported year-round in Sydney, after climbing a safety railing and jumping as the ship was returning to Sydney.
Carnival confirmed the man was travelling with family, who alerted the ship’s crew of a possible missing person, and that a review of CCTV footage showed his actions.
“The male guest was travelling with family, who alerted the ship’s crew of a possible missing person, and a review of the CCTV footage confirmed the guest’s action,” a Carnival statement said.
“All appropriate authorities have been alerted and Carnival will assist authorities in their investigation upon the ship’s return to Sydney on Sunday.
“Carnival’s Care Team is supporting the guest’s family and our thoughts and prayers are with them and their loved one.”
