United offers passenger $13k to give up seat

United is having a pretty rough time at the moment.

In the last few weeks, a dog has been killed, another has been sent to Japan by accident, and we’re almost positive another dog situation has happened though we’re having trouble keeping up.

The latest news to come out about the airline is a $13,000 travel credit offered to a passenger.

You read that right, $13,000.

The airline was hoping the woman would give up her seat on an overbooked flight for the staggering amount.

Though Allison Preiss was not at all interested.

Preiss took to Twitter to express her frustration with the airline.

“@united offering $10K [A$13,000] in travel credit for an oversold flight. If nobody bites, they will kick off the lowest fare passenger by pulling them out of the boarding line,” Preiss wrote.

“For a flight that THEY oversold. Unreal.”

Preiss then went on to say the airline had booted her off the flight and wouldn’t let her reboard as her seat was apparently broken.

We know, this all sounds very on the nose.

Preiss then continued to tweet about the ordeal.

“I AM THE LOWEST FARE PASSENGER.”

“They are kicking me off this flight.”

“They can’t board me on this plane because there is a broken seat.”

According to News.com, United then “tried to get me to sign a document that says I volunteered my seat on this plane when I was involuntarily denied boarding,” a situation she described as “Sketchy af.”

“On the upside, I wasn’t physically dragged off the plane and my dog wasn’t killed on board, so I’ve got that going for me … which is nice,” she added.

United has said it issued the voucher in line with the airline’s “policy”.
