The Embassy of Uruguay brought a touch of South American warmth to the inaugural Film and Screen track at this year’s Festival of Creativity in Cairns, hosting a wine and cheese reception that set the tone for a day of bold ideas and big conversations.
Guests were welcomed with a selection of wines courtesy of Vino of Uruguay – a fitting opener as the country signalled its interest in deepening ties with the Asia-Pacific screen and tourism industry.
The Film and Screen track, run by Travel Weekly’s sister company Misfit Media, opened with a Welcome to Country before a full day of sessions exploring the future of storytelling, brand investment and screen culture. Comedian and writer Zoë Coombs Marr kicked things off with a sharp look at Brand Australia, followed by panels on the power of pop culture, the future of cinema, and the visionaries shaping what gets made and why – with speakers from Tourism Australia, NITV, HOYTS, Tubi and beyond.
Uruguay’s presence was a reminder of exactly what the track was built for: bringing together the people and places that understand storytelling is no longer just entertainment – it’s strategy, diplomacy, and connection.
