The United States embassy in Canberra is in hot water after distributing a fake meeting invitation.
But this wasn’t just any invitation.
The event, “cat pyjama-jam” featured a picture of a cat wearing pyjamas.
Did we mention the cat was holding a plate of cookies? Because it totally was.
The embassy has apologised for the fake invitation, blaming it on a “training error”, according to the Guardian.
The email also contained a block of Latin text and recipients were given the option to hit an RSVP link.
“Sorry to disappoint those of you who were hoping to attend this ‘cat pyjama-jam’ party, but such an event falls well outside our area of expertise,” US Mission to Australia public affairs counsellor Gavin Sundwall wrote in a follow-up email two days after the original.
“It was a training error made by one of our new staff testing out our email newsletter platform.”
It’s not known how widely the email was distributed but we are VERY jealous we didn’t get an invite.
We’re onto you and your secret cat parties, US embassy.
Next time, invite us? Please?
