Day trippers to Venice will now have to pay double the entrance fee on certain days, whilst long-stay tourists will be exempt.
Visitors coming to Venice without an overnight reservation in the city will need to pay the fee between 8.30 a.m. and 4 p.m. The 2025 season is set to see entrance fees double from last year’s 5 euros to 10 euros this year. The fee will also be applied on almost twice as many dates as it was last year – 54 days as opposed to 29 last year.
Children under 14 and people with hotel reservations will not need to pay the fee, however they will still need to pay to register. Tour companies such as Through Eternity Tours are encouraging guests to stay in Venice for longer.
Venice’s mayor, Luigi Brugnaro, emphasized the city’s commitment to tackling over-tourism, declaring the pilot project a success.
Booking in advance can also save money. Those who book their slot more than four days in advance will get a 50 per cent discount, down to 5 euro from 10. Visitors can book their slot on the Comune di Venezia website.
What Days Will You Need to Pay?
In 2025, the entry fee will be in force every day from 18 April to 4 May, after which it will be in operation every weekend until the end of July.
