VFS Global has rolled out six new Indian Consular Application Centres (ICACs) across Australia, replacing facilities that had been in place for more than a decade with larger, custom-built premises in central city locations.
The new centres are in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. VFS Global said the upgrade included an increased number of counters and staff, more appointment availability, an expanded application submission and collection window, and toll-free multilingual call centre support with 24-hour access through an interactive voice response system and AI chatbot.
People born in India made up the largest proportion of those born overseas for the first time on record, narrowly edging out English-born residents in 2025.
Applicants can book appointments online before visiting a centre to submit visa, passport or other consular applications. Submission hours across all six centres are Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4pm, excluding public holidays and mission-declared holidays.

Singh said the new centres reflected an enhancement in infrastructure, technology integration and customer support systems designed to address evolving demand.
VFS Global has been the Government of India’s consular, passport and visa processing partner since 2008, including in Australia. The company said it processed applications for Indian consular services in six countries through a global network of 51 dedicated application centres, and has processed more than 21 million Indian consular applications since it began operating.
The company said its role remained limited to administrative tasks such as collecting application forms and documentation and enrolling biometrics where applicable, with decisions on granting or refusing consular services remaining the sole responsibility of the Indian government. VFS Global said it is the only authorised service delivery provider for Indian consular, passport and visa services in Australia.
