Viking cruise line is helping bring Viking treasure to Australia by partnering with the Australian National Maritime Museum in presenting Treasures of the Viking Age: The Galloway Hoard.
After a stint at Museums Victoria, this will be the final stop on the Viking hoard’s Australian tour before it returns to Scotland.
The Galloway Hoard is a rare and extraordinary collection of Viking-age artefacts, including jewellery, heirlooms and ceremonial objects, and is considered one of the most important archaeological discoveries of the century. Buried around AD900 and discovered in Scotland in 2014, the hoard connects early medieval cultures across Britain, Ireland, mainland Europe and beyond. The exhibition is presented in collaboration with National Museums Scotland.
Viking guests and trade partners in the region will have access to a range of benefits through the Museum’s exhibition program. There will be a chance for Australian National Maritime Museum members and exhibition visitors to win a Viking voyage, alongside a series of exclusive events and experiences, such as private after-hours access to the exhibition.
“We are pleased to partner with the Australian National Maritime Museum to bring this incredible collection to Sydney,” Viking ANZ managing director Michelle Black said.

“There is a natural connection between Viking’s journeys and an exhibition that brings the Viking Age to life in such a tangible way. Having supported the exhibition in Melbourne, it is fantastic to be part of its final stop in Australia and offer our guests and partners one last opportunity to experience it before it returns to Scotland.”
Viking continues to offer destination-focused journeys ‘For The Thinking Person’, combining immersive itineraries with onboard enrichment, while the Australian National Maritime Museum connects audiences with stories of exploration, culture and history from across the globe.
“We’re delighted to welcome Viking as a partner for Treasures of the Viking Age: The Galloway Hoard,” Australian National Maritime Museum assistant director Peter Fray said. “This remarkable exhibition gives Sydney audiences a rare chance to experience one of the most significant Viking-age discoveries in recent times.”
The Australian National Maritime Museum in Darling Harbour, Sydney has a long-standing reputation for showcasing Australia’s deep connections to the sea through exhibitions of national and international significance.
Treasures of the Viking Age: The Galloway Hoard runs until 11 October 2026.
