Virgin Atlantic has accelerated its Starlink Wi-Fi rollout, bringing forward the launch of its first connected aircraft ahead of schedule as competition intensifies in the premium long-haul market.

The airline confirmed its first Airbus A350 fitted with Starlink will enter service in May 2026, operating between London Heathrow Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Virgin said its entire A350 fleet is now expected to be equipped with the high-speed satellite connectivity by early summer, significantly ahead of its original timeline.

When the carrier first announced in July 2025 that it would become the first UK airline to commit to free, fleet-wide Starlink Wi-Fi, installations were scheduled to begin in Q3 2026 and conclude by the end of 2027.

Under the revised plan, the rollout is gaining pace across multiple fleet types. Installations on the Boeing 787 fleet will begin in the second half of 2026, with around two-thirds of aircraft expected to be connected by year’s end. The Airbus A330neo fleet is slated for completion in 2027.

“We were the first UK airline to announce free, fleet-wide Starlink Wi-Fi, and from May, we’re starting to deliver it for our customers,” Virgin Atlantic chief customer officer Juha Jaervinen said. “As the rollout gathers pace, we plan to deliver 100% Starlink connectivity across our fleet in 2027, as part of our focus on creating a brilliantly connected experience.

“Together with Starlink, we’re setting a new standard for connectivity in the skies, with fast, free, high-speed WiFi available from the moment customers step onboard.

“It’s all part of creating a truly connected, ‘home away from home’ experience, giving customers the freedom to use their time onboard exactly as they choose, whether that’s staying close to work, to plans, or to the people who matter most.”

The connectivity upgrade forms part of a broader transformation of Virgin Atlantic’s long-haul product. Alongside the Starlink rollout, the airline is refurbishing lounges and upgrading premium cabins across the fleet.

Notably, its Retreat Suite – currently available on A350-1000 and A330-900 aircraft – will be introduced to the 787-9 fleet for the first time, with eight seats planned in every Upper Class cabin.

Economy cabins on the Dreamliners will also be reconfigured, reducing seat numbers from 192 to 127 as the airline shifts towards a more premium-heavy offering. The new cabin product is expected to roll out from 2028 and be completed by 2030.
