Virgin Australia has had to apologise to customers after a recent flight scheduled to land in Brisbane was forced to make an emergency landing at Perth airport.
The flight was due to arrive in Queensland’s capital on Wednesday at 8pm local time however ended up completing laps of Rottnest Island to burn off fuel before making a smooth landing around 3pm.
Flight VA469 experienced a, “technical issue” a Virgin spokesperson said.
“We are working to recover guests on another flight to Brisbane today.
“The safety of our guests and crew is our top priority. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience.”
Passengers were told that there was an issue with the wings hydraulic flaps, meaning the pilots had to land the plane relying solely on the brakes.
Since launching in Australia in 1999, Virgin Australia has never had a serious incident resulting in a crash on any of their flights, maintaining a strong safety record.
