Virgin Australia has today operated its first-ever international flight from Canberra Airport, launching a new direct service to Bali (Denpasar) that will add more than 40,000 seats annually between the nation’s capital and the popular tourist destination.
The airline will operate the Canberra-Bali route three times weekly using Boeing 737-800 aircraft, offering Business Class, Economy X and Economy Class seating options. Services will run seasonally, with capacity able to increase during peak travel periods.
To mark the milestone, Virgin Australia partnered with FINNS Beach Club – recognised as the world’s most popular beach club – to bring a taste of Bali to Canberra Airport, with inaugural passengers receiving complimentary daybed vouchers valued at $190 each alongside live performances from the club’s iconic dancers.
Virgin Australia chief marketing and customer operations officer Libby Minogue said the new service had already generated strong demand.
“Today marks a significant milestone for Virgin Australia as we operate our first-ever international flight from Canberra, connecting the nation’s capital directly with one of Australia’s most popular overseas destinations,” she said.
The new route also strengthens connectivity for regional communities surrounding Canberra, including Batemans Bay, Bega, Cooma, Jindabyne and Merimbula, offering travellers in those areas direct international access without transiting through Sydney or Brisbane.
ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr welcomed the service, saying it would also drive inbound visitation to the capital. “Bali is one of the most popular destinations for Australians, and now thousands of Canberrans will be able to skip the queues and airport transfers, and fly direct from home,” he said.
To celebrate the launch, Virgin Australia has released sale fares from $449 return (Economy Lite), available to book until 26 June 2026 for travel between 28 July 2026 and 24 May 2027. Velocity Frequent Flyer members can redeem reward seats from 22,500 points one way plus taxes.
The new Canberra service expands Virgin Australia’s Bali network, which now offers more than half a million seats annually across flights from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Canberra.
