Virgin ups flight frequency to Tamworth

Virgin Australia has increased services to the home of country music in Australia, Tamworth, announcing today it will add six new overnight services between Sydney and Tamworth during winter, opening up same day travel and key international connections for local residents.

The new services are on sale from today, for travel between 3 July 2016 and 29 October 2016. These services are in addition to the six services per week Virgin Australia currently operates between Tamworth and Sydney.

Virgin Australia chief executive officer John Borghetti said the new flights mean Tamworth residents can now travel to Sydney for a full day of work or business meetings and return home in the evening.

“For residents travelling for leisure, the new flights are well timed for connection to international destinations like Los Angeles. We will continue to look for ways to bring more competition and choice to regional destinations,” Borghetti said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce said Tamworth as a regional centre continues to grow and proposer.

“My aim is to secure the future for Tamworth and New England Electorate, whether it be through the aviation industry, food processing or agriculture and to make it a better place for our children and grandchildren,” Joyce said.

Virgin Australia operates ATR-72 Turboprop 68-seat aircraft between Sydney and Tamworth, with complimentary checked baggage, food and beverages on every flight. The airline currently operates a return flight every day (excluding Saturday) departing Sydney at 1.55pm arriving into Tamworth at 3.00pm. The flight departs Tamworth at 3.30pm arriving into Sydney at 4.35pm.
