Some 45 events in regional Western Australia will receive a funding boost from the state government’s Regional Events Scheme (RES).
The Taste Great Southern festival (pictured), Boyup Brook Country Music Festival and the Dwellingup 100 MTB Classic will be included in the latest round of funding. The Western Australian PGA Golf Championship, Esperance Tennis Pro Tour and Nameless Jarndunmunha Festival in Tom Price will also benefit under the 2012-13 scheme.
Tourism Minister Kim Hames welcomed the announcement for recognizing the diverse range of smaller and developing events.
“Regional events play an important role, as they encourage visitors to the area, add further vibrancy and provide valuable exposure to the region through media coverage,” he said. “These regional events truly showcase our extraordinary state and the unique things it has to offer visitors.”
Meanwhile, regional development minister Brendon Grylls commended the state government for its commitment to regional events in recent years.
“Regional events make such a positive contribution to our state… they bolster local economies, engage residents, enable communities to showcase their region and highlight why they are such special places to live and visit,” Grylls said.
