With the West Australian election about a year away, the opposition has pledged to invest $5 million in the Perth Convention Bureau to fuel growth in the business events market.
Labor leader Mark McGowan said the state government had “foolishly” cut $5.3 million from the bureau’s budget over the next three years.
He said business events tourism returned $30 to the WA economy for every $1 invested.
Tourism Council WA estimates Labor’s plan will generate $155 million in delegate spending and 340 new jobs.
Comment is being sought from the state government.
