Outback holiday retreat, Warrawong on the Darling, has new owners marking a new era for the cabin, van and camping park near Wilcannia, and released savings for summer stays and a free roast dinner on Christmas Day.

Nestled by a pristine billabong on the Darling River and surrounded by sand dunes, far horizons, rugged open spaces, and the big skies of outback NSW, Warrawong on the Darling is now owned by outback tourism business, Dusty Outback Trails, after being sold by Out of the Ordinary Outback.

Easily accessed by sealed highways, the sleepy and remote heritage hamlet of Wilcannia was the largest inland port in Australia during the great riverboat era of the mid-19th century.

Snuggled by a classic, desert billabong that would fit perfectly into Banjo Paterson’s famous poem and song, “Waltzing Matilda”, and fringing a tranquil and wild stretch of the redgum-lined Darling River, Warrawong on the Darling is a sprawling 690-hectare sanctuary offering 21 deluxe, self-contained cabins, 44 pet-friendly, powered sites for caravans and tents, unlimited unpowered sites, a camp kitchen, hot showers and toilets and scenic bushwalking and car trails. There’s also a holiday house that sleeps up to six people

Perfect as a destination or stop for road trippers, Warrawong on the Darling is ideal for seeing wildlife, a variety of birds, fishing, canoeing and watching stunning sunsets beside the river.

Summer savings

Guests can take advantage of a 10 per cent discount for stays in Warrawong until the end of January 2025. Including the savings, cabins are now priced from $175 per night, covering two people, for stays until 31 January 2025.

Until the end of February 2025, guests can stay for four nights on powered sites and pay for just three. The discount brings prices for powered sites to $135 for four nights, a saving of $45.

Warrawong on the Darling also offers free happy hour nibblers at 5pm on each day so guests can meet and relax in the communal area. And on Christmas Day, guests can enjoy a free roast dinner with all the trimmings.
