Queenslanders have received more good travel news, with Western Australia reopening its border to visitors from the state.

Queensland transitioned from a ‘medium risk’ to a ‘low risk’ state at 12:01am this morning following the latest health advice provided to the WA government.

Jurisdictions considered low risk are permitted to enter the state without an exemption, but are subject to a number of strict conditions including COVID-19 testing and self-quarantine.

The WA government said its Chief Health Officer will continue to monitor and review border controls to determine if any further adjustments can be made in the future.

WA Health Minister Roger Cook said the state’s consistently cautious approach to its border controls has proved to be “extremely effective” in keeping it safe from COVID-19.

“On March 27, Queensland was moved to a medium-risk rating following a community outbreak,” he said.

“Since then, Queensland authorities have done an excellent job to contain the virus.

“So, it is pleasing that we can now act on the latest health advice to change the risk rating to low.

“We will continue to act in the interests of all Western Australians to ensure our state remains as safe as possible.”

WA’s border reopening to Queenslanders comes not long after South Australia lifted its hard border with Greater Brisbane.
