While us Aussies are known for our ‘laid back’ nature, a new survey by finder.com.au is proof that flying is our exemption.

Flying can be a sensitive time.

If you find yourself letting the smallest thing ruin your vacation mode, or turn an otherwise enjoyable flight into a disaster, you are not alone.

New research by finder.com.au found that 55 per cent of respondents believe the most annoying thing to happen on a plane is to have the rear of their seat kicked.

Coming in a close second, 54 per cent of respondents deem smelly passengers frustrating on flights.

Finder.com.au travel expert Angus Kidman said: “If you’re stuck next to someone with bad body odour there’s not really much you can do, without making both yourself and the other person feel rather uncomfortable.”

We presume you’re wondering why baby tantrums haven’t been mentioned, but surprisingly crying babies and loud children came in as the third most common complaint.

A month ago, a woman’s tantrum over a crying 8-month old baby on a Delta Airlines flight went viral.

Speaking to Daily Mail, the 19-year mother Marissa Rundell said the woman began hurling abuse at her and the child saying that it was “f*cking ridiculous”.

Perhaps the woman who was eventually booted from the flight, would be startled to see it coming in third for Aussies.

According to a study conducted by online travel insurance provider Insure and Go last year, more than half (55%) of Australian respondents supported child-free zones on planes and trains.

“With all the talk about pushing for kids-free zones on planes, you’d think this would be the number one frustration for travellers,” Kidman said.

Other pet peeves for Aussie travellers included unnecessary reclining, luggage space hoarding, loud talking and smelly feet.
