European cities have taken out the top five destinations for the best night out, but number one may not be the city you’d expect.
If you are looking for the ultimate night out on your next travels, take a trip to Hamburg, voted number one destination for a night out in the world.
The second largest German city beat fellow European cities well-known for a vibrant nightlife, like Copenhagen, Berlin, Dublin and Amsterdam.
The findings are from Hostelworld’s study ‘The Best Night Out’, which based its rankings on 4100 interviews from residents across 41 cities in 27 countries.
Nightlife was rated based on the quality of nightlife, variety of things to do, general enjoyment, local friendliness, safety, getting around the city and costs.
“The results of this study have been fascinating, especially the performance of smaller cities – most notably with Hamburg taking top spot over Berlin,” Global Head of Brand at Hostelworld, Marek Mossakowski said.
“We know young travellers are increasingly venturing off the beaten track to uncover unique experiences, and this study demonstrates this.”
Hamburg’s top-notch transport network, friendliness of locals and buzzing nightlife scene contributed to the city being crowned number one.
The Reeperbahn district is lined with vibrant and creative restaurants, bars and a funky party scene, while St Pauli, the city’s red light district, is an energetic hub of pubs and clubs.
New York was voted high in quality of nightlife but low in safety, while Copenhagen scored high for safety and Berlin voted best value for money.
Sydney only just made it into the top 30 with a ranking of 28, while other international cities like London was ranked 26, Paris at 20, Barcelona at 21 and Rome coming in at 39. Coming in last with a ranking of 41 is Tokyo, which scored significantly low for affordability and getting around the city.
