What’s the old expression? Don’t cry over spilled rice.
That doesn’t sound quite right, but it’s certainly what one fed-up Southwest Airlines stewardess did after a mess ended up in the aisle.
At the end of a long day on a flight from Atlanta to Houston, one Southwest flight became the scene of an intriguing mystery that would have Agatha Christie herself inspired (well, not really). A serving of “what looked like some Asian-style fried rice” was spilled in the aisle by one of the last passengers to board, according to Southwest Airlines passenger Jennifer Scharpe.
But while this slight inconvenience may have been quickly cleaned up on many other flights, this messy passenger picked the wrong plane to make the aisle the home for their half-eaten airport snack.

Enraged by this inconsiderate act, the flight attendant went “up and down the aisle and asked each passenger one by one loudly who spilled the rice,” Scharpe told KTVB.
The understandably disgruntled flight attendant put a paper towel over the rice and told the passengers they are not leaving the gate until someone cleans up the rice. But no one would confess.
The flight attendant hopped on the loudspeaker to remind travellers they would not be leaving until someone cleaned the rice, but eventually, the righteous (in our opinion) stewardess had to swallow her pride and clean this inconsiderate passenger’s flavoursome fried fiasco.
But the ordeal wasn’t done yet!
While cleaning the rice, the flight attendant was yelling at the passengers that “nobody was raised right” and how disappointed she was in all the passengers.
So, an hour and one severe scolding later, the plane finally took off, and these somewhat entertained, somewhat frightened and somewhat giggly passengers finally made their way to Houston.
