The foundations of modern Alpine skiing were laid in the Arlberg more than a century ago, and that pioneering spirit remains part of the destination today.
Ski Arlberg is Austria’s largest interconnected ski area, boasting 300 kilometres of marked ski runs, more than 200 kilometres of freeride terrain and 85 lifts and cable cars connecting five distinct mountain villages.

A legacy carved into the mountains

The first ski races and schools appeared in the area in the early 20th century, laying the foundations for a pioneering ski culture that continues to this day.
Today, Ski Arlberg ranks among the top five ski areas in the world, with cutting-edge infrastructure and a calendar of events including Der Weisse Rausch in St. Anton and Der Weiße Ring – Das Rennen in Lech Zürs.
With elevations ranging from 1,300 to 2,800 metres and an average of nine metres of seasonal snowfall, Ski Arlberg offers world-class terrain and reliable conditions throughout the winter season.
For experienced skiers, the resort offers everything from steep faces and narrow couloirs to deep powder, off-piste descents and freeride routes. Those looking to explore the backcountry can also join experienced mountain and ski guides, while the wider ski area offers groomed pistes and gentler terrain for less advanced skiers.
One of the more ambitious ways to explore the area is the RUN of FAME, an 85-kilometre circuit through the Arlberg. Heralded as the longest continuous ski run in the alps, the trail connects St. Anton to Stuben, Zürs, Lech, Schröcken and Warth in both directions, taking skiers between mountains and villages by cable car and across a variety of terrain.
Beyond the slopes
Travellers who want to take in the mountains at a slower pace have more than 100 kilometres of snow-covered hiking tracks and 70 kilometres of cross-country ski trails at their disposal, as well as snowshoeing, horse-drawn sleigh rides and tandem paragliding.

The villages of the Arlberg
Each of the region’s five villages offers its own distinct charm.

St. Christoph is a historic mountain settlement, and the birthplace of Ski-Club Arlberg, while Stuben is known for its traditional charm and north-facing runs.

Whether dining in a Michelin-starred restaurant or stopping at a rustic mountain hut between ski runs, the setting is as much a part of the experience as what is on the plate.
Mountain cheese, herbs from Alpine pastures and hearty winter dishes such as Kaiserschmarrn and Tiroler Gröstel are served alongside chef’s table experiences and sophisticated degustations, often paired with panoramic mountain views and award-winning Austrian drops.
For travellers seeking a touch of atmosphere and romance, the Candlelight Dinner on Galzig mountain delivers both in equal measure. Once a week, guests can take a scenic cable car to the Verwallstube Restaurant to savour a multi-course meal by candlelight, accompanied by live music.
Ski Arlberg in winter
