Seattle-based cruise line Windstar Cruises has announced the appointment of Christopher Prelog as its new president.

Prelog replaces John Delaney, who vacated the president role at Windstar back in March after more than three-and-a-half years in the role.

Prelog joined the cruise line in 2016 as its vice president of fleet operations, before moving up the ranks to become chief operating officer in March of this year.

He also previously spent nearly 14 years working at Seabourn Cruise Line, where he managed hotel operations.

Andrew Todd, CEO of Windstar and its parent company, Xanterra Travel Collection, said Prelog was “the perfect person” to take over as the cruise line’s president.

“As Windstar’s chief operating officer, he has led the US$250 million Star Plus investment in expanding and renovating our three all-suite yachts, in addition to managing our operations through this pandemic,” Todd said.

“His in-depth knowledge and expertise of the small-ship cruise business, combined with his collaborative leadership style, have won the hearts, minds and respect of the Windstar crew and corporate team alike.”

Commenting on his promotion, Prelog said: “I am excited and humbled to lead this tremendously talented team at Windstar.

“I know this has been the most challenging year for the cruise industry, and our teams at Windstar and Xanterra have worked together across all disciplines to implement Our Beyond Ordinary Care program and numerous plans in response to the pandemic,” he said.

“I am so proud of the work that we have delivered as a team and honoured to be chosen for this important role.”

Windstar has cancelled all sailings through 2020 and plans to resume sailing operations in January of 2021.
